Missing (2023)

Missing is a thriller involving a young daughter's search for her mother after she mysteriously disappears in Columbia.

Written and directed by the duo of Nicholas D. Johnson and Will Merrick, Missing is a pseudo-sequel to the movie Searching released in 2018. These types of films can be edited to keep the attention of the audience. Some pacing can be a bit too unrealistic but it's fine. This was certainly better than Searching.

Storm Reid plays June the main character searching for her mom. She does a lot better here than in A Wrinkle in Time where her character there was insufferable and don't get me started on Euphoria. Here she has a well-written arch from being an annoying selfish teenager to being someone who actually empathizes with others.

Nia Long plays the missing mom, and she does a pretty convincing job pretending to be an overprotective mother with a secret. You might remember her from The Best Man or Big Momma's House. She certainly is better in this than in #BlackAF.

I didn't see this in theaters, and I kinda wish I had. It really does have some good twists that many people I imagine won't see coming. Result: B-

Superman (2025)

S uperman (2025) brings the Man of Steel back to the big screen in a bold, colorful new start for the DC Universe. Directed by James Gunn , known for Guardians of the Galaxy and The Suicide Squad , this might be his second-best film. It finds the right balance between hope, humor, and action without falling into the over-jokey MCU-esque trap. Gunn’s love for the character shines through, and the world feels lived-in and full of potential. David Corenswet , previously seen in Pearl and Hollywood , steps into the cape and owns it. He’s sincere, powerful, and manages to give Superman the warmth that has been missing in recent versions. It’s a classic take that still feels fresh. Nicholas Hoult , known for The Menu and Mad Max: Fury Road , is the best Lex Luthor we’ve had. He plays the character with intelligence and menace, but never turns him into a cartoon. He’s unpredictable in the right way and commands every scene he’s in. Skyler Gisondo , best known for The Righteous Gemsto...

M3GAN 2.0 (2025)

M3GAN 2.0 continues the story of the world’s most dangerously sassy AI doll, picking up after the first film's events with a new host, new threats, and a few more upgrades. Directed by Gerard Johnstone , returning from the original M3GAN , the film keeps the same sleek look and dark humor, but the energy isn’t quite the same. The scares are toned down, the satire feels more obvious, and the plot plays it safer this time. It’s still well paced and visually sharp, just not as punchy or fresh as before. Violet McGraw , reprising her role from the first film, shows a bit more range this time. She handles the trauma beats well and sells the emotional moments, even when the script leans a bit cheesy. She’s growing as an actress, and it shows. Allison Williams , best known for Get Out and Girls , returns and feels more like a supporting character this time. She’s fine, just not given much to do besides react to the new version of M3GAN and deliver exposition. Still, she’s a steady pr...

Dragon Ball Super: Broly (2019)

Dragon Ball Super: Broly is the next chapter in the Dragon Ball franchise, introducing (again) a character into the canon with Broly. Directed by Tatsuya Nagamine, the same man who brought anime fans One Piece Film Z, but other than that he hasn't done much in terms of movies. The real praise once again goes to the legend himself Akira Toriyama , who extends his universe even further and takes the series into a new leg. Anyone who has invested themselves in his universe will be glad about this addition. One of the promising new characters is Cheelai. She's a white-haired humanoid with green skin and small build. She's not really a fighter but she does seem to be the Chichi to Broly's Goku or Bulma to Broly's Vegeta whatever floats your boat.  There is a bit of inconsistency with certain aspects of the film but only huge Dragon Ball fans will even notice. I imagine this film is going to be confusing for anyone who isn't already a big fan. ...
