Your Place or Mine (2023)

Your Place or Mine is a romance between a helpless forever bachelor and an overprotective single mother who just so happen to be best friends.

Written and directed by Aline Brosh McKenna, known for Cruella and The Devil Wears Prada. The film has typical beats of a romantic comedy but without the comedy. These people have one trait and it's taken to extremes. The problem is that people aren't like that, and so they don't feel relatable. The man is closed off and very business savvy but not smart enough to hold down a woman. The woman is uptight and very intelligent but not smart enough to realize she's smothering her child. It felt like a cheap shot on character arcs.

Reese Withersoon plays the unlikable and over protective mother. She tries really hard to be cute and quirky, but in reality where this film doesn't take place, she would remain a single mother. Witherspoon hasn't been good since Wild.

Ashton Kutcher plays the business savvy playboy who make the cardinal mistake of dating a red flag woman with a child. They never describe how they became best friends or why they would even be friends in the first place but don't worry about that. Kutcher has been in a single good movies recently, this isn't one of them. If you haven't seen Vengence, you might want to check it out.

Your Place or Mine doesn't make a splash and movies are supposed to entertain. I just want my hour and fifty or so minutes back. Result D.

We Bury The Dead (2026) is a slow burn post apocalypse film centered on grief more than horror. Directed by Zak Hilditch , best known for smaller projects like 1922 and Rattlesnake , this is his first step into a larger American production. You can feel the restraint in the direction, sometimes to the film’s benefit and sometimes to its detriment. The pacing is deliberate, almost stubbornly so, and while the mood is consistent, it rarely escalates into anything memorable. Daisy Ridley , best known for Star Wars: The Force Awakens , carries the film as a woman searching for her missing husband who may or may not have turned into a zombie. Ridley is solid and emotionally grounded, doing the best she can with minimal dialogue and long stretches of quiet reflection. Her performance is never the problem. One Night Only (2026)

One Night Only is a romantic comedy written by Travis Braun , creator of T.O.T.S. , that ultimately turns out to be something very different from what its marketing suggests. The trailers present it as a lighthearted Valentine's Day romance, but the film quickly pivots into a dystopian story that blends elements of The Purge with overt political commentary. Whether that shift works will largely depend on the viewer's expectations, but I found the bait-and-switch frustrating. The political messaging is so persistent that it frequently overshadows the romance at the center of the story. Despite that, the direction from Will Gluck is surprisingly strong, with confident staging and solid pacing that keep the film engaging even when the screenplay becomes heavy-handed. Blue Beetle (2023)

Blue Beetle is a niche comic book hero and this is his origin story adapted to fit the silver screen. Blue Beetle is directed by Angel Manuel Soto, who has brought you hits like. *checks notes* Oh he hasn't really done anything worth seeing. I'm sure he would disagree with me but let me be frank: I take issue with both his direction and how he promoted the movie. The film could have used more time in the oven as the CGI isn't up to par. Many scenes felt they could have been cut and I wonder if it was his choice to intentionally steal scenes from other comic book movies. There are scenes taken straight from Iron Man, Spider-Man, and even Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny . It doesn't seem like homage either. There are two shining parts of the movie and those are Xolo Maridueña and Bruna Marquezine who have on-screen chemistry. They make the movie at least bearable to watch.
