Your Place or Mine (2023)

 



Your Place or Mine is a romance between a helpless forever bachelor and an overprotective single mother who just so happen to be best friends.

Written and directed by Aline Brosh McKenna, known for Cruella and The Devil Wears Prada. The film has typical beats of a romantic comedy but without the comedy. These people have one trait and it's taken to extremes. The problem is that people aren't like that, and so they don't feel relatable. The man is closed off and very business savvy but not smart enough to hold down a woman. The woman is uptight and very intelligent but not smart enough to realize she's smothering her child. It felt like a cheap shot on character arcs.

Reese Withersoon plays the unlikable and over protective mother. She tries really hard to be cute and quirky, but in reality where this film doesn't take place, she would remain a single mother. Witherspoon hasn't been good since Wild. 

Ashton Kutcher plays the business savvy playboy who make the cardinal mistake of dating a red flag woman with a child. They never describe how they became best friends or why they would even be friends in the first place but don't worry about that. Kutcher has been in a single good movies recently, this isn't one of them. If you haven't seen Vengence, you might want to check it out.

Your Place or Mine doesn't make a splash and movies are supposed to entertain. I just want my hour and fifty or so minutes back. Result D.

M3GAN 2.0 (2025)

M3GAN 2.0 continues the story of the world’s most dangerously sassy AI doll, picking up after the first film's events with a new host, new threats, and a few more upgrades. Directed by Gerard Johnstone , returning from the original M3GAN , the film keeps the same sleek look and dark humor, but the energy isn’t quite the same. The scares are toned down, the satire feels more obvious, and the plot plays it safer this time. It’s still well paced and visually sharp, just not as punchy or fresh as before. Violet McGraw , reprising her role from the first film, shows a bit more range this time. She handles the trauma beats well and sells the emotional moments, even when the script leans a bit cheesy. She’s growing as an actress, and it shows. Allison Williams , best known for Get Out and Girls , returns and feels more like a supporting character this time. Dragon Ball Super: Broly (2019)

Dragon Ball Super: Broly is the next chapter in the Dragon Ball franchise, introducing (again) a character into the canon with Broly. Directed by Tatsuya Nagamine, the same man who brought anime fans One Piece Film Z, but other than that he hasn't done much in terms of movies. The real praise once again goes to the legend himself Akira Toriyama , who extends his universe even further and takes the series into a new leg. Anyone who has invested themselves in his universe will be glad about this addition. One of the promising new characters is Cheelai. She's a white-haired humanoid with green skin and small build. She's not really a fighter but she does seem to be the Chichi to Broly's Goku or Bulma to Broly's Vegeta whatever floats your boat.  There is a bit of inconsistency with certain aspects of the film but only huge Dragon Ball fans will even notice. I imagine this film is going to be confusing for anyone who isn't already a big fan. ...
