Inside (2023)

Inside is an artsy film about a person trapped inside a home he was burgling for art that he could sell.

Written and directed by Vasilis Katsoupis, who isn't really known for much. There are shots and sequences that felt over-drawn out. There are some convenient plot devices in the film that break the reality of what is happening. Some things are breakable with enough time and effort but other times they are superhuman in durability. In the end, it's an artsy film about art.

Willem Dafoe plays the main character Nemo. He's on display for any flaws he has in his acting and of course, he delivers what you'd expect from a single-character movie. He plays a failed artist and now steals art from those who were successful. You might remember Dafoe as Green Goblin from Sam Rami's Spider-man.

I never want to watch this film again and most you'd expect to happen about a person trapped in a home for days on end you'll find. If you just watch the trailer you'll feel like you watched the whole movie and leave the theater feeling dejected. Dafoe is the one saving grace and without him, the film would be a straight-to-DVD film. Result C-

Your Name (2016)

Your Name (2016) is written and directed by Makoto Shinkai , about two teenagers who switch bodies every day. They get to leave eachother messages as to what they did that day, but they don't live in the same city so they haven't met. Makoto Shinkai  really came out of no where. The anime and manga he's written in the past isn't noteworthy and to have the highest-grossing anime film of all time. The ideas he use aren't new but they're fresh and used in a great way. I will follow this director from now on and make sure to watch whatever he comes out with next. Ryunosuke Kamiki voices the main male character Taki. You're recognize his voice from Studio Ghibli's Spirited Away, The Secret World of Arrietty, and Howl's Moving Castle (my wife's favorite). He's also going to be in a film that's coming out soon that I'm eager to watch called mary and the Witch's Flower. There's not really much to say about him other than he'...

Rental Family (2025)

Rental Family is about an American living in Japan as an actor who falls into an odd acting gig as a surrogate family member or something similar for other people to cope or find meaning in relationships.  Written and directed by Hikari, who brought us the critically acclaimed movie 37 Seconds which was sent straight to streaming back in 2020, so don't feel bad if you've never heard of it. This time around she's getting a proper release. Her direction is very artistic and the character writing is great. There are even moments of laughter in this drama.  Brendan Frasier plays the main character a "token white guy" as the movie puts it. He is on a role with these select films. I'm excited for a Mummy reunion and his return with The Whale  was great. This wasn't as well acted as The Whale, but it was still good. I'm not too sure this will get nominated for any Oscar or do well at the box office, but it was still good. Result:  B

Five Night's At Freddy's 2 (2025)

Five Night's At Freddy's 2  is the sequel to the video game movie released in 2023.  Director Emma Tammi is lucky the fanbase is showing up for her movie. Without them she would be a complete unknown and with her ability to direct she would remain as such. Scott Cawthon can write video games but when it comes to realistic or natural dialogue between children he can't help himself. Piper Rubio  cannot act well. The way she delivers lines is as if the director didn't ask her to try again. With how cheap these movies are made I imagine that was how it went. No way was this the seventh take.  Elizabeth Lail  is probably the best of the main characters while Mckenna Grace seems to be in the movie just so they could say she was. She really feels out of place with her ability to act compared to these main characters.  Horror veterans will be happy to see Skeet Ulrich  and Matthew Lillard  return to the same movie but they should have had a scene t...
